Methodology, sources and limits
Equivalent salary = current gross income × destination overall price index ÷ current overall price index. It is a price-level comparison, not an income-tax calculation. A hypothetical move from an index of 100 to 90 makes an $80,000 salary equivalent to $72,000.

Common questions
Is this my take-home salary?
No. It compares gross salary using price indexes and excludes taxes, payroll deductions and benefits.
Can I use this to negotiate a salary?
Use it as one reference point. Occupation-specific pay, experience, benefits, local housing and employer demand also matter.
Why might my actual costs differ?
The indexes represent state price levels, not a personalized household budget or a specific city.
