These moving story guidelines explain what to share, how review works and how to protect your privacy. Share the details that would have helped you plan your move. We welcome firsthand accounts of completed moves, with or without photos.
Moving story guidelines: what to include
Tell us when and where you moved, how you moved, what surprised you, and what you would do differently. Costs are optional. Distinguish actual expenses from estimates, and show refundable deposits separately.
Photos and privacy
Upload your own photos, or photos you have permission to share. Get permission from people who can be identified. Avoid exact addresses, private documents, vehicle plates and identifying details about children. You may use a public display name. Your account email is not displayed with your story.
Review and publication
Submitting a story does not publish it. An administrator reviews the text and photos and may request changes, edit, decline, or approve the story. We review edits to a published story before they replace the approved version. A reader’s account is not an independent fact check.
Fair and useful contributions
Write about your own experience. Do not submit fabricated accounts, copied material, spam, undisclosed promotions, harassment, or other people’s private information. Disclose any relationship with a business you mention. Contributors must be at least 18.
Corrections and removal
Use My Stories to request removal or submit corrections. You may also contact us. Individual experiences do not replace current official guidance, professional advice or a quote for your own move.

First, read the moving stories for an idea of the format. Then use Share Your Moving Story when you are ready. Keep a copy of your notes so you can check dates and costs before submitting.
